From Iceland — Klapparstígur To Get Makeover

Klapparstígur To Get Makeover

Published February 9, 2012

Big changes will be coming to Klapparstígur this spring, as it transforms into being more like Skólavörðustígur.
While many streets in the capital are scheduled for renewal, the few blocks of Klapparstígur south of Laugarvegur will be undergoing a transformation this March, RÚV reports.
The surface of both the street and its sidewalks will be completely redone, for one. Tubing of warm water – used to keep ice from forming on the surface – will be set under both the street and the sidewalk. Lastly, the sidewalks themselves will be made wider while the street will be more narrow.
Construction is slated to begin next month and conclude in June. Residents on these few blocks of Klapparstígur have been informed. It should also make standing in line to get into the new location of Bakkus a lot more interesting.
