Iceland Sends 233 Tons of Water to Haiti

Published January 19, 2010

Jón Ólafsson, owner of the bottled water company Icelandic Glacial, has sent 233 tons of water (in 400,000 individual bottles) to those in need in Haiti.
The water will be sent to Haiti with the US military from Virginia, and is expected to reach its destination today. Ólafsson told Vísir, “It’s a given that we’re duty bound to do all we can to help. Everyone who can do something [to help Haiti] should do something.”
The Icelandic Rescue Squad is already in Haiti, assisting in rescue and recovery efforts after a devastating earthquake in the country left tens of thousands dead, and many more homeless. The rescue squad has assisted in previous earthquake recovery missions in, among other places, Turkey and Pakistan.
