It could happen to anyone, really. Confusion, hysteria and “utter chaos” prevailed yesterday morning during the British morning show, ‘This Morning Live‘ on ITV when hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were forced to eat cheese rather than speak to Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir.
The confusion came when someone in the Prime Minister’s cabinet forgot the time difference between Iceland and The UK. “There’s timings we have at the beginning of the show,” Phillip said, laughing. “It’s all out the window today, because–and here’s something you don’t expect to say everyday–the Icelandic Prime Minister got the time wrong.”
Apparently, the confusion stems from one Icelandic government official: Information Officer Róbert Marshall, who garnered some infamy as a journalist in 2005 when he mixed up the time difference in a story about the war in Iraq. “Many would think that I had learned to calculate the time difference, but no…” he wrote on his Facebook page. The UK is one hour ahead of Iceland.
Luckily, chef James Martin was on deck to save the day by talking about cheese. Cheesecake, cheese and chutney, cheese and wine, cheese on the grill, pretty much everything you can imagine about cheese. Unfortunately, Katrín never did make an appearance on the show, so the hosts had to improvise with new content.
“This is a new format on ITV, now,” Phillip said, “this is called Phillip and Holly Eat Cheese.” Light music played as the duo ate cheese and cut to commercial.
