Three people are reported dead after a vehicle drove off a bridge in South Iceland this morning, RÚV reports.
The accident took place at Núpsvötn in Skeiðarársandi, near Vatnajökull. The vehicle reportedly had seven passengers in all, and drove off the side of a bridge over the Núpsá river, but did not land in the water. The condition of the survivors is unknown.
First responders are already at the scene, including two helicopters and all available emergency care in the area.
As a result, Route 1 east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur is temporarily closed. An announcement from the police states that it may be a few hours before the road is open again.
