Vísir reports that the Environmental and Planning Committee for the City of Reykjavík has approved a permit for a waterslide party, scheduled to be held next Saturday, July 2.
The party, sponsored by the telecom Nova, will set up a waterslide on Bankastræti (seen above). “Now we hope that the Meteorological Office plays along,” Reykjavík Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson quipped in his regular newsletter.
Plans for a waterslide downtown have been put forward before, as was the case last year, when a group of students wanted to set up a 200m waterslide on Skólavörðustígur. Those plans, unfortunately, did not come to fruition.
Waterslides may not seem like a popular idea in Iceland, but they are a particularly common sight at public swimming pools.
