RUV reports the results of a Gallup poll on where Icelanders stand on President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson continuing to run, in light of recent news showing his connection with Panama Papers.

It has now been 10 days since he announced he is running for a sixth term, with elections to be held on June 25. According to the poll results, 44% of respondents are pleased with his continuing campaign, but 43% are unsatisfied. The remaining 13% had no position.

Looking specifically at parliamentary party support, you can see that most Progressive Party voters are happy with Ólafur’s decision to run again, as illustrated in the following graph:

In previous polls, it has come to light that Ólafur Ragnar is a popular candidate for presidency. Whether this popularity will carry over for the next eight weeks or so remains to be seen.
