The people behind the Iceland Airwaves festival haven’t been resting on their laurels this winter—they’ve been beavering away in the darkness to prepare the 2016 festival.
They today unveiled the first names of the 2016 lineup, which includes two eye-catching overseas names: UK grand-dame PJ Harvey, and emerging international star Julia Holter, whose ‘Have You In My Wilderness’ was widely feted as one of the best albums of 2015. Also announced are 90s indie-rock band Lush.
There are also six Icelandic bands in the first release of names, including Múm (playing with Kronos Quartet in a separately ticketed Harpa event), Axel Flóvent, Mammút, Mr. Silla, Sturla Atlas, GKR and popular female rap collective Reykjavíkurdœtur.
As you might remember, we covered the 2015 edition with a lot of gusto – if you want to relive some highlights from that most celebratory week of the Icelandic music calendar, take a look here.
