Players of the MMORPG Eve Online have raised over $68,000 USD to help survivors of the deadly earthquake that struck Nepal last week. Most of this money was raised within the game itself.

The fundraising effort, called PLEX for GOOD, enables Eve Online players to donate money to charity in-game. This is done by players sending PLEX – 30-day blocks of game time that are often bought and sold in Eve Online – to a character named CCP PLEX For GOOD. For every PLEX donated, CCP Games put $15 USD towards the charity effort.

The campaign, which lasted from Friday, May 1st 2015 through to 23:59:59 on Friday May 15th 2015, raised $68,340 USD in all to go to the Icelandic Red Cross to help fund their aid efforts in Nepal.

Eve Online has held PLEX for GOOD campaigns for relief efforts before. As stated in on the PLEX for GOOD Nepal relief page, “Previous PLEX for GOOD drives have resulted in donations totaling over $340,000 to those in need during natural disasters in Japan, Haiti, Pakistan, and the United States, with the last PLEX for GOOD drive raising an astonishing $190,890 for those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines during November 2013.”
