The chairwoman of the Icelandic Teachers’ Union has confirmed that a strike will begin as of Monday morning, reports RÚV.
As reported by the Grapevine last week, the majority of teachers at The Technical College of Reykjavík and Borgarfjörður College voted in favour of going on strike on March 17. Attempts to broker a deal in the past week have been unsuccessful.
Aðalheiður Steingrímsdóttir, chairwoman of the Icelandic Teachers’ Union, told RÚV that teachers are extremely angry they have to go on strike once again. That there has been a longstanding agreement with the state that teacher’s wages should develop in conjunction with wages from comparable professions, but that this agreement has not been honoured.
