Iceland’s strongest man, Hafþór “Thor” Björnsson, has been signed on to play the role of Ser Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. The Mountain, in Game Of Thrones’ season four, the Winter is Coming fansite reports.
The character he will enact is described by the show’s wiki as “freakishly huge, […] almost eight feet in height and heavily muscled”, which Thor should pull off in a cinch clocking in at 2.06m tall and 175kg. The character is the older brother of Sandor Clegane, acted by Rory McCann. Thor happens to be twenty years younger than Rory. So far, it’s unknown whether it will be a speaking role, as his face will be covered most of the time.
The Mountain has appeared in the first two seasons of the show, played by Conan Stevens and Ian Whyte, respectively. He did not appear in season three.
This is Thor’s first professional acting gig. To read more about the 24-year old colossus, check out our feature Hanging With Giants.
