The use of social networking by Icelanders has played a large part in getting a camera lost at Keflavík airport back to its rightful owners.
Many Icelandic Facebook users are probably familiar with the above image. It is one of the photos taken by a camera that was discovered last week at Keflavík Airport by a young Icelandic woman. The owners of the camera were nowhere to be found, and so she turned to the internet for help. A female relative of hers uploaded the above photo to Facebook, asking others if they recognise the couple and to share the photo with others.
Vísir reports that a snowball effect across the internet has paid off.
After receiving numerous shares, even the Icelandic media took part in searching for the camera’s rightful owners. Soon thereafter, a thread about the missing camera was made on Reddit.
The Reddit thread received about 700 replies, among them from a man who claimed to be a neighbour of the woman in the photo. He contacted her via Facebook, and she has in turn contacted the people who have the camera.
