Reykjavík’s public bus company Strætó is celebrating Family Day on Saturday afternoon with a diverse programme of family friendly activities aimed at familiarising people with the bus system.
Sveppi will be there to greet kids who can take their photo in the driver’s seat of a bus. Strætó will be offering rides through a ‘car wash’ and the fire department will give people rides on their crane. There will be also be face painting, an inflatable jumping castle and other games in the area, according to a press release.
In addition to the fun and games, there will be educational activities, and the eighty year long story of public transportation in Reykjavík will be told. “Strætó’s Family Day is also being held at a key time in the story of public transportation in the capital area,” Strætó Director Reynir Jónsson says.
As we reported earlier this year, there have been cutbacks to public transportation and specifically the bus system. The city, however, has ambitious plans to improve the situation.
The Family Day events will take place at Strætó headquarters (Hestháls 14) from 13:00 to 16:00. Strætó will have a number of buses driving regularly to and from the festivities.
