Police have arrested a middle-aged man who they suspect is responsible for vandalizing the home of former Kaupþing director Hreiðar Már Sigurðsson.
The suspect, described only as being in his fifties, has a history with the police. According to Vísir, his home has been searched, where computers, camera and memory sticks were recovered. The suspect has been released pending a court date. Investigations are now underway to see if this individual is connected to other similar attacks on the properties of Iceland’s wealthy.
The splashing of red paint on the houses of Iceland’s businessmen has been ongoing since at least the summer of 2009. It is uncertain whether this is the work of one or more people, although in an interview with the Grapevine, the name attributed to the attacks, “Skap Ofsi” (Rage), is claimed to belong to a group.
