Nine Icelandic eco-tourism operators and museum professionals flew to the U.S. yesterday on a State Department exchange exploring the non-lethal use of whales, reportsRÚV.
This comes after the White House stepped up their Anti-Whaling campaign against Iceland earlier this month.
As reported, the White House issued a statement on Iceland’s whale hunting, outlining a number of actions the US planned to take in response to continued whaling. This included re-examining bilateral co-operation projects and evaluating the appropriateness of future visits to Iceland made by senior Administration officials and Cabinet secretaries.
During the State Department exchange, which will last 10 days in all, the Icelandic exchange participants will meet with policy experts, conservationists and eco-tourism companies. They will also visit whale watching companies, whaling museums, marine research institutes and participate in discussions at the U.S. Capitol, the Smithsonian Institution and the White House.
