Dutch authorities are confident that ongoing negotiations between
themselves and British and Icelandic authorities will reach a positive
conclusion.
According to Morgunblaðið, a spokesman told them, “I know that the Icelandic media has been talking about this 2024 limit [for repayment of funds] but our position is, the money will be returned in one way or the other. We have now a very positive and constructive relationship with British and Icelandic authorities.”
The spokesman added: “We are very optimistic and hopeful, and believe that we can reach a good result for all parties involved.” He would not comment on what, if any, reaction Dutch authorities had to the recent ammendments the Icelandic parliament made to the deal, nor would he comment on recent rumours that British and Dutch authorities are considering extending the re-payment by 16 years, to 2040.
“It’s a process that needs to be worked on with care, and we respect that all parties take their time on this matter,” the spokesman concluded.
