Swine Flu (H1N1) is making its mark on Iceland, with eleven cases now diagnosed since May 2009. This is more than double the number of cases that had been confirmed as of earlier this month, making mid-July a bad month for Swine Flu in Iceland.
On July 14th The Icelandic Directorate of Health confirmed four new cases of the virus. Three of the patients, males and females 18-19 years of age, fell ill after returning from Australia and another new case was confirmed the same day after a person of the same age returned from a vacation in the United States.
Since the 15th of July, three more cases of N1H1 have been diagnosed; one being a 19-year-old girl returning from Mexico, a 35-year old female returning from Australia, an 8-year-old returning from Spain and, most troubling, a30-year-old male who has not travelled recently or been in contact with anybody who had been travelling.
None of the cases are considered serious. For more information on the Swine Flu see influensa.is, maintained by Iceland’s Directorate of Health.
