The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is on
its way to Iceland to supervise parliamentary elections on 25 April.
The OSCE report, filed last month, asks monitors to pay special attention to changes in election law, as well as absentee ballots, an imbalance in ballot power between districts, as well as which large corporations own which media outlets.
The report also mentions that reports have come in from smaller parties in Iceland that such short notice before elections puts them at a disadvantage when compared to the resources and revenues available to Iceland’s larger political parties.
The report acknowledges that the Icelandic people as a whole appear to trust the election system overall. The monitors intend to focus most of their attention on election law and its management.
