New research on tobacco consumption in Iceland in 2013 shows that although fewer people are smoking daily than in 2012, people with lower incomes are more likely to smoke, reports RÚV.
The research shows that 11,4% of respondents admitted to smoking daily compared to 13,8 % in 2012. The rate of daily smoking was also linked to education and income, the higher the level of income the less likely participants were to smoke.
In light of this data, the Directorate of Health, which commissioned the report from Capacent, indicated possible policy changes to ensure equal access to all social groups seeking help for tobacco addiction and to raise general awareness.
