A group of Vodafone costumers whose personal data was compromised when the telecom company was hacked earlier last month are considering filing a joint lawsuit against Vodafone.
Vísir reports that Vodafone Iceland managing director Hrannar Pétursson has confirmed that a number of customers have contacted the company, requesting damages for the largest cyber attack in Icelandic history, which took place in early December. Hrannar said the company’s lawyers are still examining the complaints.
In the meantime, a number of former Vodafone Iceland customers have contacted lawyers themselves. The law office of Réttar is handling a group of complaints, although what action they will take – or how much in damages they will seek – remains to be seen.
Vodafone was hacked last month by a Turkish hacker, who subsequently leaked a great deal of personal information about Vodafone costumers, including thousands of text messages from some 77,000 people.
Vodafone was criticised for their lack of net security, in some cases for completely preventable vulnerabilities, such as customer data which should have been deleted months previous still available on Vodafone servers at the time of the attack.
