Tourists greeted with the sight of Strokkur erupting in a bright pink colour have apparently seen the latest work by artist Marco Evaristti.

Vísir reports that the artist had poured red dye into Strokkur as a part of an installation work entitled “Pink State”. Marco told reporters that he intends to make the landscape into a work of art.

Sigurður Másson, an employee of the Geysir area, where Strokkur is located, told reporters that the geyser is erupting in a normal colour again. Garðar Eiríksson, spokesperson for the landowners of the Geysir area, was none too pleased with the stunt.

“He did this without permission and without letting us know, and we condemn this stupidity,” he told reporters. “He went in there, where there’s boiling hot water, which can be very dangerous. He respects nothing, and shows that it is impossible to not keep surveillance over this natural pearl.”
