Extremely bad weather conditions are predicted throughout the country tonight and well into Sunday, reports RÚV.

Snowstorm winds from 30-60m/s are predicted, moving in from the West, further inland, then East. Considerable snowfall is expected in the North of the country so travelling will be very difficult and many roads will soon be considered impassable.

Road conditions will be updated at 07:00 am on the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration’s website and throughout the day until 22:00 pm.

A map is available on IRCA’s website, revealing the conditions of the country’s roads and website Safe Travel also publishes travel recommendations and alerts for tourists in English.

The most bearable conditions are expected in West Iceland, but there will still be snowfall and dangerous road conditions so it might be best just to stay inside.

IRCA webcams, supposedly showing the condition of roads in real-time, can be accessed via their website.
