Tom Cruise In Iceland

Published June 15, 2012

Actor and noted Scientologist Tom Cruise is currently in Iceland for the filming of Oblivion, taking place in the northeast of the country.
Vísir reports that Cruise is staying at the Hótel Hilton in Reykjavík. He will remain in Reykjavík for a few days before moving his residence to Hrafnabjörg in Vaðlaheiði, near Akureyri, for the summer.
The occasion of his visit is the filming of the movie Oblivion, taking place in the northeast of Iceland. Specifically, RÚV reports, the area of Hrossaborg will be used for filming.
The area is strictly off-limits to visitors, but is about 25km from Lake Mývatn. A camp of sorts has already been built there, for the cast and filming crew. Three scenes will be filmed in the area, with another two filmed near Lake Þórisvatn.
The tourist office of Lake Mývatn is reportedly looking forward to Cruise’s visit, and he said in a recent interview with Playboy magazine that he intends to celebrate his 50th birthday – on July 3 – in Akureyri.
