The volcanic eruption east of Stóra-Skógfell, which began on November 20, has officially ended, reports Vísir. A drone operated by Civil Protection revealed no signs of volcanic activity in the area.

The eruption lasted for 18 days, making it one of the more significant eruptions in the Sundhnúkur crater row, ranking as the second-largest by area out of the seven eruptions that have occurred since December 2023. The last visible glow in the crater was recorded on December 8, according to the Icelandic Met Office.

Land uplift at Svartsengi has continued in recent days, suggesting that magma accumulation is underway once again. This indicates the potential for further volcanic activity in the region in the future.
