A man arrested on suspicious of killing two people in Neskaupstaður earlier this year has denied guilt. He will remain in custody until at least December 20, reports RÚV.
The suspect, detained since August 23, claims he discovered the couple dead on their bathroom floor with severe injuries. However, police found him bloody and in possession of the victims’ personal belongings.
The National Court today confirmed a ruling to hold the suspect in custody until December 20. He has been detained since August 23.
A court-appointed expert determined the man is experiencing a serious psychotic episode and potentially dangerous to others. He will be held in a mental health facility despite exceeding standard pre-charge detention limits.
The Reykjavík District Court ordered his institutional placement based on expert psychiatric evaluation. Police plan to forward the case to the District Prosecutor this week.
