From Iceland — Linda Dröfn Gunnarsdóttir On BBC Influential Women List

Linda Dröfn Gunnarsdóttir On BBC Influential Women List

Published December 4, 2024

The BBC recently revealed the names of the women making up their BBC 100 Women list. Featuring inspiring and influential women, the list kicks off the BBC Women 2024 season which includes interviews and documentaries available on the media’s channels.

From Iceland, manager of the women’s shelter Kvennaathvarfið Linda Dröfn Gunnarsdóttir was included in the list,  “For her work helping those who are forced to leave their homes due to domestic violence,” the BBC cites.

Consequently, BBC News will air a documentary later in December titled, “Iceland: A Women’s Paradise?” The film explores Iceland’s high rankings as the often-touted ‘best place to be a woman,’ and whether conditions are as good as they seem for women.

Among the women featured in the list include actress Sharon Stone, astronaut Sunita Williams, sexual violence survivor Gisèle Pelicot, and Olympian athletes Rebeca Andrade and Allyson Felix.

Kvennaathvarfið was founded in 1982. A new shelter is under construction, anticipated to open in May, 2026.
