The Icelandic Met Office has painted Iceland’s map with yellow weather alerts, sparing only the north of the country. The storm warnings will stay up until Wednesday afternoon, and difficult driving conditions are expected.
Today, the South of the country and East Fjords will be the areas most affected by the winds coming from the mountains at around 40-50 m/s. Then, starting tomorrow, the West and the capital area can expect wind gusts going up to 23 m/s with frequent snow showers that will make visibility very difficult, thus driving must be taken carefully. However, precipitation has already started to spread across the country, either in the form of rain or snow.
The main road remains open in all directions, with warnings being issued in real-time on the road assistance website. Please make sure to travel safely and check the weather and road conditions.
