After over four years of uncertainty and discussions, an asylum seeker from Nigeria can stay in Iceland.
RÚV reports that his lawyers announced yesterday that he finally got a residence permit.
Originally from Nigeria, he sought asylum in Iceland four years ago as he was persecuted for his sexual orientation in his home country. He felt safe in Iceland, had a job and made a home for himself. In February, however, immigration officials indicated they were about to send him to Italy. This decision was later delayed.
After four years of not knowing if he can or cannot stay, he can finally start to build his life here in Iceland.
