Firearm enthusiasts in the northwest Iceland town now have a new place to practice their hobby.
RÚV reports that the Sport Shooting Society of Ísafjörður now has an indoor facility to conduct target practice. The previous location was outdoors, rendering the range effectively unusable for a better portion of the year.
The 185 members of the club pooled money and resources in order to refurbish a building that was previously used as an indoor football stadium. Guðmundur Valdimarsson, the director of the club, believe the new location will precipitate a lot of changes, and not just for current members.
“This will lead to us increasing our social work significantly,” he told reporters. “The goal is to have quality youth and childrens’ activities, especially in archery.”
The facility is currently open to the public, and those in Ísafjörður who are interested in participating should contact the club directly.
