DA Investigates Violent Arrest

The District Attorney will look into a forceful arrest of a woman in downtown Reykjavík, after a video of the arrest went viral. A video showing police officers arresting a woman on Laugavegur on the weekend, has raised attention and caused an outrage in the social media and Vísir.is reported about the video on Sunday night.

In it, a police officer is seen jumping out of a police van, grabbing the drunk woman, throwing her over a bench and dragging her by her arms before handcuffing her on the ground.

Today, the Reykjavík Police announced that the incident would be investigated by the District Attorney, Vísir.is reports. The video was shot by residents by Laugavegur and in it they can be heard exclaiming; “He spit at her, he spit at her!”

UPDATE: Rúv.is reports that the police officer in question has been relieved from his duties while the incident is being investigated.
