Six hundred people signed up on the first day of registration to be on Iceland’s installation of ‘The Biggest Loser.’
‘The Biggest Loser Iceland’ will follow the model of the popular American TV show that challenges very overweight individuals (and sometimes pairs) to lose weight while completing a series of physical challenges and test of their will power while working with a personal trainer.
While the opportunity to be cast on the show has proven popular among Icelanders, as shown by the number of registrants, not everybody is pleased with the TV show making its Icelandic debut, RÚV reports.
Sigrún Daníelsdóttir, a psychologist and president of the Organisation of Respect for the Body has expressed concerns about the message the show is sending by encouraging people to lose weight in competition with one another. She believes that the approach embraced by ‘The Biggest Loser’ will increase the likeliness of participants taking an unhealthy path toward their weight loss goals.
Registration is open until 25 July.
