Seventeen flights were delayed departing Keflavík International Airport this morning after the airport’s luggage check-in system failed.
The computer system used to check-in and redistribute luggage had stopped working around 4AM, so no luggage was being transferred to the flights it was meant to be loaded on, Vísir reports.
While airport staff implemented a manual check-in procedure prior to the system coming back online around 7AM, the malfunction caused 17 flights to be delayed 30 – 90 minutes. Technicians are looking into the matter to determine what caused the breakdown.
The airport’s website shows that many flights continued to experience delays throughout the day, though it is unclear if this is a result of the earlier malfunction.
