The Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ) is calling for a boycott of Hagkaup, Nóatún, Kostur, and Víðir after the four grocery stores have banned the Confederation from conducting product price surveys in their shops.
For the past years ASÍ has carried out price surveys in an effort to maintain price controls in the market, RÚV reports. However, the stores in question have recently been barring ASÍ employees from entering their facilities and have banned the Confederation from conducting their price surveys.
“The effect of this is that we cannot carry out reviews and propose price cps in stores, nor can we provide consumers with the information they need in order to make informed choices,” said Henný Hinz, an economist working with ASÍ.
Hagkaup executives have responded, saying that the findings of ASÍ’s price surveys are misleading to consumers and not worthwhile.
