From Iceland — A Win for KinWins at StartUp Weekend

A Win for KinWins at StartUp Weekend

Published November 23, 2010

Family focused online game KinWins, currently in development by ‘Start Up Kids’ Sesselja Vilhjalmsdóttir, Valgerður Halldórsdóttir and three software developers, was declared the winner of Iceland’s first ever StartUp weekend. KinWins, a game which aims to motivate families to cooperate with each other and make daily life more fun, goes on to take part in the global StartUp Battle, the winner of which will travel to San Francisco in 2011 to meet one-on-one with well-known entrepreneurs and investors.
Fifty-four hours of ideas, strategies, challenges, frustrations, innovations, and coffee led to the StartUp eruption at Landsbanki over the weekend. Organised in conjunction with Innovit and sponsored by Landsbanki and local businesses, the event took place simultaneously with StartUp Weekends in Tokyo and Athens.
The event brought over thirty entrepreneurial bright sparks together to form teams around the seven most popular business ideas, who worked straight through the weekend to create a start-up company by Sunday evening.

One of the most fun start-ups, www.myhappyhangover.com, offers a service to Icelanders, whereby hangover sufferers can pay for someone to clean their apartment on those mornings when its all just too much to bear.

Andri Heidar Kristinsson, founder and CEO of Innovit was delighted with the success of the event, stating that “Innovation, while a long-term strategy, is the best way to create lasting jobs in Iceland”.
