A poll conducted bv the Tourist Board went into a lot of detail regarding the most common visitor to Iceland.
As reported, a poll conducted by Market and Media Research for the Iceland Tourist Board recently showed that the largest draws to Iceland are the natural life, the Blue Lagoon, and the people themselves.
Vísir now reports that the tourist board asked visitors some more pointed questions about themselves, thereby painting a more detailed picture of the average tourist in Iceland.
According to their findings, the average tourist in Iceland is an American married couple, traveling without their children and usually staying about ten days. They have used the internet to learn what they can about the country, including what to see and do there. They usually rented a car, exploring the south of the country, and frequented swimming pools, hot springs, went whale watching and saw Gullfoss and Geysir. The couple is typically well-educated, and spends around 370,000 ISK on their trip.
According to figures from the Ministry of Industry, 565,000 people visited Iceland last year, marking a 15.8% increase from the year previous.
