Chinese Authorities Meet in Húsavík

Published September 21, 2009

Two representatives from the Chinese embassy are meeting with municipal
authorities in Húsavík, expressing an interest in investing in energy
production in the area.
According to Morgunblaðið, the Chinese are interested in acquiring 32% of the company Þeistareykja. Mayor Bergur Elías Ágústsson told reporters that the Chinese were given a tour of the area, and asked to know more about geothermal activity in the region, and what opportunities were available in this area.
The officials did not come representing any one particular company, and no definitive possibilities were set forth. What will transpire as a result of these meetings remains to be seen.
