Unemployment At 4.6%

The first month of 2013 shows Iceland’s rate of unemployment at 4.6%, and part of an overall declining trend.
Statistics Iceland reports that the last quarter of 2012 showed a total national unemployment rate of 4.6%. In exact numbers, this means a decline in the number of people without work but seeking employment from 10,600 in the last quarter of 2011 to 8,400 today.
Viewed over the past year, as can be seen on the Statistics Iceland homepage, unemployment has been steadily declining. At the same time, inflation is also decreasing, currently at 4.2%. At the time last year, inflation was over 6%.
The employment situation in Iceland is especially positive when viewed in a global context. Unemployment in Europe recently hit a record high of 11.8%, and unemployment in the US is currently at 7.8%.
