The Outlaws motorcycle club has officially established itself in Iceland, and both police and politicians alike see them as a menace.
Motorcycle clubs – and their conflicts with the law – are not a new thing in Iceland. Both the Black Pistons and the Hells Angels have either set up shop here or have connections with the country. The Outlaws, long rivals of the Hells Angels, have now opened a club in Hafnarfjörður, RÚV reports.
Snorri Magnússon, chairman of the Police Federation of Iceland, connects the club with organised crime, and says that authorities need to step up their efforts against them. Björgvin G. Sigurðsson, chairman of the parliamentary general committee, agrees, saying that the government should provide the “money, time and manpower” to focus on the Outlaws specifically.
The Outlaws have been linked to a shooting which took place in the east Reykjavík neighbourhood of Bryggjuhverfi last November, and police believe that a large cache of weapons they recently seized belongs to the club. Police also believe the group is connected to drug smuggling and sales, human trafficking, and generalised violence and mayhem.
