From Iceland — Jacob Appelbaum Detained At Keflavík Airport

Jacob Appelbaum Detained At Keflavík Airport

Published October 27, 2011

Grapevine has learned that Tor Project member and one-time WikiLeaks representative Jacob Appelbaum has been detained at Keflavík International Airport.
Sources close to Grapevine have confirmed that the US Department of Homeland Security put a Secondary Security Screening Selection (SSSS) tag on Appelbaum in 2010. He has been stopped, detained, and searched multiple times in his travels, and has had laptops and mobile phones seized and searched, including most recently in Seattle after returning from Iceland.
This marks the first time he has been detained in Iceland.
It has also been confirmed that his flight, KEF-SEA 17:09, has already departed. Grapevine contacted security at the airport, who told us that they cannot comment on the matter.
More details will be made available as they arise.
UPDATE: MP for The Movement Birgitta Jónsdóttir has confirmed for Vísir that Jacob has since been released and is on his way to the US.
