Police for the Suðurnes area of southwest Iceland are advertising ten new positions – for border patrol.Wanted: Border Control

Vísir reports that passenger traffic through Keflavík International Airport has increased by 15% over the past year alone. This has put an increased strain on police that requires increased hiring, police say.

Police emphasise that the border patrol job differs from that of a police officer. Border patrol guards do not have to be educated in law enforcement, for example, even though the police have been engaged in border patrol work since 2011.

Potential applicants must meet some requirements to be a border patrol guard. Amongst these are being an Icelandic citizen, having a clean criminal record, submitting to a background check, and being mentally and physically fit.
