It looks as if the leader of the Progressive Party, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, who has been summoned to meet with the President this morning, will be given the mandate to form the next government, MBL reports.
President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson met with all the leaders of the elected parties yesterday, but announced a special meeting with Sigmundur Davið, which is to take place late this morning.
The president issues the final mandate on the formation of the succeeding government and the recent presidential announcement suggests that he has chosen the Progressive Party to lead the next government.
