The lava is now completely covering the parking lot at the Blue Lagoon. Ragnar Visage, a photographer for RÚV, took the feature photo of a service building that once stood on the site engulfed in flames.

According to Arnar Smári Þorvarðarson, one of the supervisors of the protective barrier work on the Reykjanes Peninsula and an employee of Verkíss, heavy machinery is now being used to fill gaps in the protective barrier near the Blue Lagoon. One gap is where the Blue Lagoon road crosses the barrier, and the other is the gap where the entrance to the Blue Lagoon is located.

The lava has flowed along the barrier from the point where it crossed over the hot water pipeline, which is buried about two meters underground and is still functioning well to transport hot water to Reykjanesbær.

Despite roadblocks and Civil Protection warnings, a group of tourists managed to reach the lava’s edge.
