For the discriminating venture capitalist who wants to start humble, the mall Smáralind is currently for sale.
Reginn ehf. – a daughter company of Landsbanki – is currently looking for buyers for the 62,730 square meter shopping center. Helga Gunnarsson, the director of Reginn, confirmed this on the government radio station Rás 2 yesterday.
The mall was opened in 2001, during the bleak years when there was only one mall – Kringlan. Since then, Smáralind has grown to contain 95 stores, all of whom saw a total of 4 million customers in 2009.
If you are interested in buying Smáralind, get ready to pony up 500 million ISK – just under 3 million euros. Then contact Landsbanki with your offer at smaralind@landsbanki.is before 16:00 Icelandic time, 25 May.
Good luck, potential mall owners! And may we suggest that, whoever ends up buying Smáralind, that you open an independent music store there? We could use more of those.
