Hello! Welcome! Airwaves Is Coming!

So, it’s that special time of year. As Reykjavík’s (non existant) summer departs, the Iceland Airwaves Music Festival is just around the corner once again.

It’s a time when the city comes alive, with thousands of visitors flooding into the country to watch shows, experience the natural wonders of Iceland, and party hard with hoards of liquored & loved-up locals. The Icelandic glitterati play alongside exciting bands from around the world – from reggae to techno to the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Airwaves has it all.

We at Reykjavík Grapevine will be, as ever, your trusty guide to the melee of the festival. Over the coming weeks we’ll be offering all sorts of stuff via daily updates to the fancy Airwaves subdomain that you’re looking at right now. We’ll be talking to movers-and-shakers about their tips for having a fun time, as well as chatting with the stars of the show, whether debutantes, veterans or headliners.

I’ve been told by the lovely Haukur that I should introduce myself. So, hi! I’m John. I work with bands at Projekta (luckily, all established Grapevine favourites that you’d be reading about whoever was in this seat, so no conflicts of interest there, phew). I have a background in art, and do various types of writing (there are links for all that stuff and various social media/contact details in the “about the author” box below). Amongst Grapevine’s excellent writing team, I’m the nominated “Airwaves expert” this year, so I’ll be here trying my best to filter and relay information that’ll help out with your festival.

But enough about me, let’s talk about YOU. I’m all ears when it comes to what you want to read about, or news you might have heard. So, please, get involved: send me tips or rumours if you have them; if you’re a band, send me your new track or video, and if you know any red hot gossip then send it my way at john@grapevine.is.

So, once again: hello, and welcome, and stay tuned for lots of exciting stuff over the coming weeks. This is going to be fun!
