NASA took advantage of a cloudless day in Iceland to take a few incredible photos of the country from orbit.
The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite took a few photos of the country on 10 August. Despite the term “moderate resolution” in the name, the photos taken are quite large – “high resolution” in NASA’s terms refers to incredibly large images that are several megabytes in size.
The satellite took photos of the country at a distance of one kilometre, 500 metres, and 250 metres, the latter being the largest image in the bunch.
NASA has often focused on Iceland. In the most recent past, the Eyjafjallajökull eruption prompted these photos to be taken.
