Search for Gold in East Iceland Ends

Published September 10, 2010

An Australian mining company’s search for gold in east Iceland has been concluded, with no nuggets found.
According to RÚV, Platina Resources say that their metals prospecting is going so well in Australia that they intend to focus their efforts there. The National Energy Authority has previously approved Platina Resource’s permit to hunt for gold in east Iceland, and told reporters that this permit has since been withdrawn.
This of course prevents no one from going to east Iceland to engage in panning or even digging a mine, provided they have all the legal paperwork in order.
Platina Resources is, according to their website, not just focusing on Australia though – they have gold-hunting prospects in Kobberminebugt in west Greenland, as well as numerous locations in east Greenland.
