Jelena Ciric has been a definitive namestay in Reykjavík’s folk scene for years. In February, she released her first follow-up to her critically-acclaimed EP Shelters Two, the wonderfully crafted “Love Song”. Today, she releases the accompanying music video.
Jelena’s song and accompanying music video address the inescapable truth of every relationship — that we all must perish. Through her straightforward songwriting, Jelena puts her efforts into delivering a proper gut punch. Strangely enough, it leaves you wanting more.
This simplicity is complemented by the song’s music video, directed by multi-disciplinary artist Sigurlaug “Mister Silla” Gísladóttir. With just a few stills, Jelena’s message is augmented as her face slowly moves behind a red prism.
Relying exclusively on her voice and a tender piano, “Love Song” manages to provoke a visceral emotion. The song’s simplicity puts the artist’s confidence bravely on display, and succeeds in showing off Jelena’s unmasked talents.
With two EPs under her belt, Jelena is currently working on her first full-length album.
