We’ve got a busy weekend coming up!

ReykjaDoom is hosting a pre-festival show featuring the Norwegian post-sludge metal band DWAAL at 20:00 at Bird on Friday. On Saturday, Eleni Ieremia will open HOLY HOTEL at Associate Gallery at 15:00, an installation and short film brought through an ongoing partnership between Reykjavík and Bergen, Norway, initiated by Associate Gallery. Dalur Hostel is hosting another Swap Market at 16:00, which we heard have been bountiful. If you were lucky enough to get tickets to SLEIKUR 6.0 on Saturday before they sold out, lucky you! You already know your plans. For the rest of us, the great Masaya Ozaki is performing with Swedish-Finnish sound artist Marja Ahti at Mengi at 20:00, experimental noise/metal project Svartþoka will be playing Smekkleysa at 20:00 with support from D.I.A and Ólöf Rún.

Marta Wieczorek, Reykjavík’s Person of the Year, will host a guided tour of the permanent exhibition Fish & Folk – 150 Years of Icelandic Fisheries, in Polish on Sunday, March 16, at 14:00, at The Reykjavík Maritime Museum. Free admission for all Polish speakers!

Smátíðni

Friday, March 14 — 19:00 — Mengi — 2500kr or pay what you can

Smátíðni is back! The concert series is a fundraising event for post-dreifing’s always highly anticipated grassroots music festival Hátíðni. Excitingly, artists Iðunn Einars, sameheads, and Amor Vincit Omnia are set to perform — so you should be sure not to miss this event. I’d say that the beginning of Smátíðni means that summer is just around the corner. ISH

Lunchtime Melodies: An Ode to Women – About Women, By Women

Saturday, March 15 — 13:15 — Reykjavik City Library Spöngin — Free

Lunchtime Melodies is a series where double-bassist Leifur Gunnarsson plays with various musicians. Following International Women’s Day on March 8, this iteration features singer Helga Margrét Clarke, alongside pianist Jón Ingimundarson. The three will play music about women, by women, to spotlight equal rights and women’s rights. ISH

Exhibition opening — NEW ACQUISITIONS: Received, Remade, Replaced

Saturday, March 15 — 17:00-19:00 — Nýlistasafnið — Free

This group exhibition is a conglomeration of various museum acquisitions since 2020. Emphasising the variety of donations within their collection, the exhibition includes sculpture, remakes of damaged (and one stolen!) work, and an unrealised proposal. The intention behind this collection’s diversity is to collect a “Living Archive” that chronicles specific artists’ trajectories, the museum’s evolution, and more. Nýló invites you to investigate this contemporary art collection for yourself at their opening — but if you can’t, the exhibition will run until April 27. ISH

Herðum haus: Oyama

Saturday, March 15 — 19:00 — RVK Brewing Co./Tónabíó — Free

The concert series at Tónabíó, now rebranded as ‘Herðum haus,’ will continue in collaboration with radio station X-ið (X-977). We’ve attended a few of the past shows and can assure you the vibes are always great. Plus, there’s always delicious beer. The concert series is free (in this economy?!), and this Saturday, shoegaze band Oyama will be gracing the stage. Honestly, I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve seen them since their comeback during Iceland Airwaves, but… is there ever enough Oyama? IZ
