As a cyclone is predicted to begin touching down in Iceland tonight, and coming in from the southwest, most or all of the roads in and out of Reykjavík will very likely be closed tonight, RÚV reports.
The southwest of the country, which naturally includes Reykjavík, will begin experiencing increasingly severe winds as the evening progresses. Readers are advised to check road conditions as the night wears on.
As reported, the cyclone will be marked by exceptionally high winds and blowing snow. Further road closures and cancelled flights can be expected (in fact, Icelandair has already cancelled several of tomorrow’s scheduled flights). The south of the country will experience the worst of it through Friday morning, as the cyclone makes its way to the northeast, where conditions will worsen through the afternoon and evening in that region.
All this being the case, prepare to hunker down through Friday; the storm is expected to pass by early Saturday morning. Follow the weather forecast and road conditions linked above before traveling anywhere tonight and tomorrow.
UPDATE: A red alert is now in effect for the entirety of South Iceland for Friday morning.
