On March 24, the dean of the Icelandic Film School Hlín Jóhannesdóttir sent an e-mail to its staff and students declaring the institution would be declaring bankruptcy, reports RÚV.

In the letter, Hlín apologised for late payments and claimed that the school has started a process of filing for bankruptcy. She asked teachers to continue the school’s operations although it owed them salaries.

Furthermore, Hlín said that every effort is being made to keep the studies going and secure the interests of its staff and students, reports Vísir. According to her, the school is set to meet with ministry representatives which will determine the institution’s future.

The Icelandic Film School offers studies in four departments, including directing and producing; creative technology; screenwriting and directing; and acting.
