One half of the pair arrested for attempting to bring about 80 kilos of drugs into Iceland has confessed, saying his wife had no idea of the hidden cargo.

RÚV reports that 81.2 kilos of MDMA was hidden in cans, two propane tanks and a spare tire, all of which were on an RV the couple brought to Iceland by ferry last week. The couple are married, and the husband has confessed to being behind the entire operation, contending his wife had absolutely no knowledge of the smuggling operation.

The two will be in custody for a total of four weeks while police investigate who the couple were supposed to meet in Iceland.

As reported, the drug bust is one of the largest – if not the largest – in Icelandic history. The couple have reportedly never visited Iceland before, and no Icelanders have yet been questioned in connection to the case.

Investigations are still ongoing.
